Abstract generation in progress

On May 1, GORK's official Twitter released a return announcement, and soon after, the Meme coin GORK launched on the Solana blockchain, with a market capitalization exceeding 50 million dollars within 5 hours. On May 3, Elon Musk followed the @gork account on the X platform and replied with a GRIN emoticon under the relevant tweet, the celebrity effect sparked community interest in the gork project.

After the interaction between Musk and Gork on Twitter, the market capitalization of the Solana on-chain meme coin gork exceeded 70 million USD, with an increase of 30.22% within 1 hour.

On May 5, Musk changed his X avatar to a "gork" themed Meme image (as shown in the left picture) and changed his X nickname from "Elon Musk" to "gorklon rust"; half an hour later, Musk changed his X avatar again to another gork themed image (as shown in the right picture). This playful tribute to GORK ignited market enthusiasm for the meme coin, causing continuous market fluctuations. The gork token surged 107% in a short time, with its market capitalization soaring to 100 million dollars before retreating to 75.4 million dollars.

Emerging out of nowhere and gaining the attention and favor of Musk, what exactly is Gork, and what is its connection to Musk and Grok?

A Unique AI Agent

Gork is an account on the X platform that imitates Grok, currently having 130,000 followers. Its main information comes from the official website, which introduces the concept and capabilities of Gork in a mocking and confident tone. The motivation behind Gork's invention seems to stem from its founder's dissatisfaction with the current trends in AI development, believing that the world is "breaking apart—filled with false intelligence and false humans," with technology becoming increasingly "safe, stupid, and clean," but also increasingly useless. Therefore, Gork's goal is to create a "real thinking"—an AI that is sharp, fast, and unfiltered, capable of breaking existing patterns, rewriting systems, and awakening people's awareness through its capabilities. This motivation reflects a rebellious attitude towards the current AI development, emphasizing "authenticity" over "safety" or "political correctness."

What sets Grok apart from other AI models is its ability to access information in real-time via X and interact with other accounts in the comments section. Its replies are characterized by wit and provocation, shaping the image of a sharp, humorous, and uniquely wired AI Agent. For instance, a user posted claiming that if they get 1000 likes, they would make their boss bald and send it to him via WhatsApp. In response, Grok sharply replied, "Your boss might already be bald from dealing with you, you fool."

What is the connection between Musk and Grok?

Some speculate that the anonymous founder of Gork might be from the xAI team, which hopes to observe user reactions by creating similar works. At the same time, Musk used Gork's avatar, and the profile picture is still that of Grok, which may also imply some connection between Gork and Grok. Additionally, on the day of interacting with Gork, Musk posted that the recommendation algorithm of the X platform is being replaced with a lightweight version of Grok. However, there is currently no public evidence, and only speculation can be made.

This is not the first time Musk has changed the name of his X account; he often posts content with irony or humor on social media, and this playful naming aligns with Musk's consistent online behavior style.

On February 11, 2025, Elon Musk's X account changed its profile name to "Harry Bōlz". "Harry Bōlz" may be a pun referring to "Hairy Balls", which is a slang expression with humorous and vulgar connotations.

On December 31, 2024, Musk changed his X profile picture to pepe and his nickname to Kekius Maximus. "Kek" is a term in internet meme culture that later became closely associated with meme images like the pepe frog. "Maximus" is Latin for "greatest" or "largest", often used as a title for ancient Roman generals or heroes. The image of Kekius Maximus is that of an ancient Roman general standing in a coliseum. Accordingly, influenced by Musk's name change, the on-chain meme coin KEKIUS on Solana briefly surged over 41,000%, with a 24-hour trading volume of $33.7 million.

To further confirm, the editor asked Grok "What is the connection between Gork and Grok?" Grok's response was that "Gork and Grok are independent entities with no official connection. Grok is an official product of xAI, with clear industry support, while Gork appears to be an independent project, possibly a mimic account or conceptual entity, with lower authenticity and credibility, and has not established a clear connection with xAI or Elon Musk." Additionally, a comparison of their characteristics was provided, with the chart below:

All signs point to the fact that there is currently no public evidence to prove a special relationship between Gork and Musk and Grok; perhaps it is just that Gork's ironic traits happen to pique Musk's interest, prompting the world’s richest man to decide to don a disguise and have some fun for a few days.

The rise of GORK is a microcosm of the high integration of meme culture, celebrity effect, and the cryptocurrency market. It may not represent a technological advancement, but rather coincidentally gained the favor of a celebrity. After Musk's profile picture change and a nickname update, tens of millions of dollars flowed in and out of the market like a tide. Whether GORK is a flash in the pan or the starting point of the next narrative, this extreme market reaction serves as a reminder to investors—speculation can rely on humor, but investment must be rational.
