On May 20, according to Decrypt, South Korean actress Hwang Jung-eum admitted to embezzling $3.1 million (4.34 billion won) from her personal agency to invest in Crypto Assets, and has been prosecuted under South Korea's Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes. Hwang Jung-eum has sold part of her Crypto Assets and plans to liquidate her real estate investments to make up for the funds. SBS Plus's variety show "Because of Being Single" has removed all her footage and reduced her hosting content, and the health drink brand Elephant Wellife Nucare has urgently delisted its related promotional materials. After the incident broke, the artist signed with a new company, Y.One Entertainment. The defense attorney argued that part of the embezzled funds were personal earnings from her performances, and due to South Korea's prohibition on companies directly holding Crypto Assets, they were temporarily stored in her personal account. The second hearing of the case is scheduled for August.
